2021 Mildred Perry “On the Road” Memorial Lecture Announced

We are pleased to announce that the 2021 Mildred Perry “On the Road” Memorial Lecture has been announced, and it will be virtual and quite timely.  It will be Wednesday, February 17 at 7 pm and will feature Dr. Laura Ritchey from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown presenting “RNA in Plants, Viruses, and Vaccines: Connections to the COVID Vaccine.”  Details can be found in the flyer.  We look forward to “seeing” you there!  See the event flyer here.

The polls will open November 16. Please  note that all ballots must be received by November 22, 2020 when polls close.

We remember long time Pittsburgh ACS Member and 1988 Chair Thomas Ruppel. Tom joined the ACS in 1952 and was very active in the Energy Technology Group.

Thomas C. Ruppel, 89, died on May 31 in Pittsburgh
 
“Mr. Ruppel worked as a research chemist, chemical research engineer, and environmental engineer, most recently at the US Department of Energy from 1952 to 1995. He had been a member of the American Chemical Society since 1952, having held the position of chair of the Pittsburgh Section. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemists, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Air and Waste Management Association, and Toastmasters International. Mr. Ruppel founded and chaired a Department of Energy Conference on Unburned Carbon on Utility Fly Ash.”—David Ruppel, son
